Bathinda Court Summons Kangana Ranaut On Dec 15 Over Remark Against Woman Farmer Protester In 2020

The Bathinda special court has fixed 15 December 2025 for Kangana Ranaut to appear in person regarding a 2021 defamation case filed by Mahinder Kaur over a 2020 social media post related to farmer protests, with the proceedings continuing before the designated court for sitting MPs and MLAs.

A special court in Bathinda has ordered actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut to appear in person on 15 December 2025, in connection with a defamation case filed in 2021 by elderly farmer Mahinder Kaur over a social media post from 2020.

The directive came after Kangana Ranaut failed to attend the latest hearing, with information sent to the court that Kangana Ranaut was occupied with ongoing Lok Sabha business. The court has now fixed 15 December 2025 as the next mandatory appearance date.

Kangana Ranaut defamation case and role of the Bathinda special court

The matter is being heard by a special court of judicial magistrate 1st class Inderjeet Singh in Bathinda. This court is designated to handle criminal cases involving sitting MPs and MLAs. Kangana Ranaut is the BJP MP from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh.

During the recent proceedings, the court recorded the testimony of complainant Mahinder Kaur, who reached the courtroom in a wheelchair. Mahinder Kaur is an elderly farmer from Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district and has continued to pursue the case despite health issues.

Background to the Kangana Ranaut defamation case and farmer protest remark

The case dates back to a 2020 social media post by Kangana Ranaut, written during the farmer protests. In that post, Kangana Ranaut allegedly misidentified Mahinder Kaur as Shaheen Bagh protester Bilkis Bano and claimed that such women could be hired for Rs 100 to attend demonstrations.

Mahinder Kaur filed the defamation complaint in 2021, arguing that the post damaged reputation and dignity. The suit alleges wrongful identification and offensive comments linking Mahinder Kaur to paid protest activity, and the Bathinda court will now continue hearing the matter when Kangana Ranaut appears on 15 December 2025.
