Kabir Khan Backs Diljit Dosanjh Amid Sardaar Ji 3 Row Over Hania Aamir’s Casting: Unfair To Target...

Kabir Khan addresses the controversy over Sardaar Ji 3, highlighting the film's international success and defending Diljit Dosanjh's casting amidst political tensions.

Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy: Filmmaker Kabir Khan has addressed the controversy surrounding the film Sardaar Ji 3, which features Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The movie faced backlash from some public and political groups after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. Critics were upset about casting a Pakistani actor in an Indian film. Kabir explained that the casting was decided long before the tragic event.

Kabir Khan defended Diljit Dosanjh during an interview with NDTV, stating, "It was a decision that was taken ages ago. By the time things changed, the film had already been shot. So it's probably unfair to target." He expressed his views against censorship and banning, advocating for more freedom in artistic expression.

Art Beyond Politics

The director emphasized that art should not be viewed through a political lens. He remarked, "With anything to do with art. I don't think anybody is doing or making any film just to hurt people's sentiments or create hate and controversy. It's unfortunate." Kabir believes that films sometimes become victims of political conflicts, affecting their release and audience reach.

Sardaar Ji 3 did not premiere in India due to these political tensions. Kabir sees this as a loss for both audiences and filmmakers. Despite this setback, the film has performed well internationally, especially in Punjabi-speaking regions abroad. Released on June 27, it became the highest-grossing Punjabi film of 2025.

Diljit's International Success

Kabir praised Diljit Dosanjh's contributions to cinema and music, highlighting his success in Pakistan. He noted, "Diljit's film is doing well in Pakistan, like you mentioned. He is one of the most respected actors and stars of this country and has always done very good work." Kabir also acknowledged Diljit's pride in being Indian and his status as an international icon.

The controversy intensified when Diljit promoted Sardaar Ji 3 with Hania amid strained India-Pakistan relations. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) criticized Diljit for collaborating with Hania despite a renewed ban on Pakistani celebrities following the Pahalgam attack.

Rumours and Clarifications

Reports suggested that Diljit was removed from his upcoming Bollywood project Border 2, with Ammy Virk potentially replacing him. However, Ammy's team denied these rumours to Hindustan Times, stating they were untrue. Recently, FWICE lifted its ban on Diljit after producer Bhushan Kumar personally requested it.

Despite facing criticism at home, Sardaar Ji 3's international success highlights its appeal beyond borders. The film's journey underscores how art can transcend political barriers and resonate with audiences worldwide.
