Akshay Kumar Calls Dhurandhar A Well-Knit Film, Expresses Desire To Work In Such Cinema: Kabhi Mauka Milega...

Dhurandhar, a two-film spy thriller franchise by Aditya Dhar, has earned substantial global box office returns and garnered praise from leading stars. The series blends realism with spectacle while tackling India-Pakistan tensions and espionage dynamics, signalling potential future installments.

Akshay Kumar has joined a long list of stars praising Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller franchise Dhurandhar. After the success of the second film, Dhurandhar The Revenge, Akshay called the Ranveer Singh project “beautifully made”, adding his voice to appreciation already shared by Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun, Vijay Deverakonda and Mahesh Babu.

The first Dhurandhar film released in December 2025, while the sequel hit cinemas on March 19. Both parts have drawn huge crowds in India and overseas, turning the series into one of the most commercially successful Hindi spy thrillers, while also sparking debate about its depiction of India, Pakistan and intelligence operations.

Dhurandhar box office success and franchise impact

Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has grown into a two-film franchise with massive box office returns. Together, the movies have collected more than ₹3,000 crore worldwide. The first chapter earned about ₹1,300 crore globally, with strong ticket sales and positive reviews, and set up a complex espionage story rooted in recent South Asian history.

The opening film follows an Indian intelligence operative who secretly enters Karachi’s criminal and political network. The narrative links the character’s mission with real incidents, including the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai assaults and operations linked to Lyari. These events provide the backdrop for the character’s undercover journey in Pakistan.

Akshay Kumar on Dhurandhar story and style

Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, Akshay described how Dhurandhar explores national issues. Akshay said, "It goes on the way about the country… it is a very well-knit film. Every answer is answered. Obviously, saaf pata chalta hain ki unko pata tha bohot saari cheeezein unko bohot jagahon se mili hain aur unhone uss film ko leke banaya. The reality of it, what kind of things they wanted to show."

Akshay highlighted how Dhurandhar merges realism with larger spectacle while covering India–Pakistan tensions. Akshay continued, "What happened in Pakistan, what happened in India… how they were dealing with it… how one agency works against the other agencies… beautifully made. Larger than life also. Catching the real thing and putting a larger-than-life cinema into it and expanding it. Cinemas are changing. Kabhi mauka milega aisi cinema mein kaam karne ka (Hopefully I will get a chance to work in films like these)."

The second film, Dhurandhar The Revenge, expands Ranveer Singh’s character arc and shows how the spy is trained to become Hamza Ali Mazari. The sequel tracks the character as control over Lyari’s power structure shifts, while the spy attempts to break a terror organisation in Pakistan that threatens India, leading to a tense clash between Ranveer Singh and Arjun Rampal.

Dhurandhar 2 continues the ensemble approach, with R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor and Sanjay Dutt playing key roles in the power struggle. Away from Dhurandhar, Akshay is enjoying the response to the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, which released last Friday and reunites Akshay with director Priyadarshan after 14 years, alongside Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi and Rajpal Yadav.

The growing praise from actors across industries, combined with Dhurandhar’s strong global earnings and dense political backdrop, has reinforced interest in the franchise’s future. With discussions already building around a possible third part, Akshay’s detailed appreciation adds another influential voice to the conversation around how Dhurandhar portrays espionage, national security and commercial Hindi cinema.
