Ram Gopal Varma Criticises Industry’s Silence On Dhurandhar 2 Success, Issues Warning: Take It Seriously Or...
Dhurandhar: The Revenge achieves substantial box office success, yet Ram Gopal Varma questions the industry’s restrained public response. The debate centers on why major earnings have not been widely celebrated and what this means for future productions and trade conversations.
Ram Gopal Varma has questioned why much of the Hindi film fraternity is not openly celebrating the huge box-office numbers of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy thriller has reportedly crossed Rs 1,200 crore worldwide and over Rs 770 crore net in India, yet Varma claimed that industry reactions remain oddly restrained.

The filmmaker posted a long series of comments on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday. Varma suggested that the discussion within the trade has not matched the scale of the commercial success of Dhurandhar 2. According to Varma, this gap between performance and public praise raises questions about how the industry responds to major hits.
Dhurandhar 2 box-office debate and industry reactions
In one post, Varma wrote, "Now that @AdityaDharFilms has EXPLODED a ATOMIC BOMB right under the film industry, what is shocking is the loud silence from the rest of the film industry." Varma described the film’s run as something that should force difficult conversations in production offices, writers’ rooms and distribution circles across the country.
Varma then offered several tongue-in-cheek explanations for what was, in his view, a muted response. He wrote, "I don't know whether this is because the #Dhurandhar2's devastating explosion has hurled everyone else in the film industry so far into OUTER SPACE that their applause cannot reach here due to the long distances, OR whether they're huddled in denial, whispering to each other, 'It's just propaganda… it will go away soon,' so that they can crawl back and resume making their same old repetitive films. OR are they just paralysed by the film's sheer brilliance, realising that whatever they've been making or planning to make now simply cannot measure up?"
Dhurandhar 2 criticism, advice and box-office scale
The director argued that ignoring Dhurandhar: The Revenge would be a strategic mistake for filmmakers and studios. Calling the film a massive presence in the marketplace, Varma stated, "But isn't it extremely unwise to ignore a DINOSAUR like #Dhurandhar2 staring you in the face and BREATHING FIRE into your eyes with its BOX OFFICE ROAR shaking the very ground beneath their feet, how can anyone be so foolish enough to look away?"
Varma ended his posts by urging peers to closely analyse Dhurandhar: The Revenge rather than dismissing it. His final note read, "My sincere advice to all my colleagues in the film industry is to please take #Dhurandhar2 deadly seriously and study it like an ultra-fresh course in filmmaking and educate yourselves OR risk being buried forever in the graveyard of pre-March 19, 2026 cinema." Varma contrasted this approach with what he described as denial in parts of the fraternity.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge story, cast and existing praise
Despite Varma’s concerns, several well-known figures, including SS Rajamouli, Karan Johar and Alia Bhatt, have already praised Dhurandhar 2 and Ranveer Singh’s performance. The film follows Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who assumes the identity of Indian spy Hamza Ali Mazari while navigating the political and criminal networks of Lyari. The cast also features Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun in major roles.
Trade reports state that Dhurandhar: The Revenge has become one of the biggest Hindi-language hits in recent years, with strong overseas numbers supporting its Indian collections. While the film’s box-office run continues, Varma’s posts have shifted part of the conversation from celebration towards questions about how the industry publicly recognises large-scale success.
