Rohit Shetty's Team Reacts To Illegal Use Of Police Sticker: Was Placed Post Firing Incident, Now Discontinued
The report on police stickers on Rohit Shetty's private SUVs sparked legal discussion under the Motor Vehicles Act, while the production continues under police protection. Officials note stickers were temporary and part of security measures following a firing incident outside his Juhu residence.
Filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s team has rejected allegations that laws were flouted by using 'Police’ stickers and lights on private SUVs, stating that such identification was briefly applied as part of security measures after a firing incident, and has since been removed while official police protection for Rohit Shetty continues.

The controversy began after a Mid-Day report claimed that Rohit Shetty used 'Police’ stickers and beacon-style lights on at least two privately owned sports utility vehicles without taking official permission, suggesting a possible breach of motor vehicle rules that reserve such markings strictly for authorised law enforcement personnel.
Rohit Shetty police stickers row linked to firing incident and security cover
Rohit Shetty’s spokesperson issued a detailed clarification, linking the stickers to enhanced security after firing outside the Juhu residence, stating, "Following the firing incident at Rohit Shetty's residence, the police had implemented heightened security measures and provided protection. Identification stickers were placed during the initial phase which have now been discontinued."
The spokesperson further said, "At present, Rohit Shetty continues to remain under police security, with two personnel deployed for his safety, as the matter remains under active surveillance. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Mumbai Police for their steadfast support and cooperation during this challenging period."
Legal backdrop to Rohit Shetty police stickers issue under Motor Vehicles Act
Mid-Day reported that a senior traffic officer explained how permission to display 'Police’ stickers and use related lights is reserved for serving officers, not civilians, and verification with registration records allegedly showed that the SUVs in question were registered in Rohit Shetty’s name, raising questions about compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to officials quoted in the report, Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended in 2019, covers such violations involving unauthorised signs on private vehicles, and a senior RTO official was cited saying, "Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended in 2019, does not allow a 'Police' sticker, logo, or board on a private vehicle, under Section 177.
