Loveyapa Film Review: Interesting Premise With Standout Supporting Performances Makes It Watchable

Loveyapa Movie Review: Loveyapa, starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan in the lead roles, has finally hit the theatres today (February 7) amid a decent buzz. Directed by Advait Chandan, the film is said to be the Hindi remake of the 2022 Tamil film Love Today and moviegoers were looking forward to watching a rom-com on the silver screen after a long time.
But, did Loveyapa succeed in entertaining them? Well, the film has its share of engaging scenes but Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor as a pair just didn't click. Here's a quick spoiler-free review of Loveyapa!
LOVEYAPA STORY REVIEW: OVERALL AN INTERESTING PREMISE FOR A ROM-COM
Featuring Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor as Bani and Gucci (Gaurav), respectively, Loveyapa revolves around the lead pair, both 24, who are in love and eager to tie the knot. However, their journey to marriage takes an unexpected turn when Bani's strict father, played by the ever-intense Ashutosh Rana, challenges them to exchange phones for a day. What follows is a test of trust, hidden secrets, and the true nature of their bond.
The story is the same as Love Today and the Loveyapa makers haven't altered anything. Overall, the story takes an interesting turn in the second half and makes the film watchable.
LOVEYAPA ACTING REVIEW: LEADS LACK CHEMISTRY; SUPPORTING CAST STANDS OUT
Loveyapa attempts to explore modern relationships through an intriguing premise but ultimately falls short due to a lack of chemistry between its lead pair. Directed with a mix of humor and drama, the film has its moments but Junaid and Khushi aren't looking good as a couple. While the premise holds promise, the execution falters due to the mismatched energy between the leads.
Junaid Khan, portraying Gaurav, puts in an earnest effort but appears clumsy and misfit in the role. His chemistry with Khushi Kapoor feels underdeveloped. However, he redeems himself in the pre-climax, where his serious scenes add some much-needed depth. Khushi has performed better than The Archies.
The film's supporting cast has delivered standout performances. Grusha Kapoor plays Gaurav's mother with warmth and leaves her mark thanks to her humorous dialogues. Ashutosh Rana's stern presence adds gravitas to the film. Kiku Sharda delivers a surprising performance as Gaurav's brother-in-law, shedding his usual comedic persona to play an overweight, understated character. His love story with Kiran (Gaurav's sister) brings a refreshing and more engaging dynamic to the narrative.
The film finds its lighter moments in Babbu's interactions with his friends, providing some much-needed comic relief.
LOVEYAPA OVERALL VERDICT: NOT BAD, IT'S A WATCHABLE FILM
While Loveyapa attempts to deliver a fresh take on love and trust, it falls short due to underwhelming romantic chemistry between leads. Other than that, youngsters are going to relate to the characters and situations. Overall, an interesting premise and strong supporting cast make it watchable.
