Did You Know About This Indian Music Connection To Upcoming Smurfs Movie?

When you think of The Smurfs, your mind probably jumps to tiny blue creatures, mushroom houses, and infectious pop tunes. But this time, there's something refreshingly unexpected about their musical world. The upcoming Smurfs movie, releasing in Indian theatres on July 18th, has done what no other Hollywood animated film has before-it's brought Punjabi music to the big screen.
Yes, you read that right.
For the first time ever, a Smurfs soundtrack features the foot-tapping Punjabi beats - thanks to a global music collaboration! The high-energy anthem "Higher Love" is the centerpiece of the soundtrack, produced by DESI TRILL, a music collective known for blending Desi sounds with Western genres like hip-hop and pop. The track features none other than DJ Khaled and Cardi B, alongside Indian-origin artists Natania and Subhi, creating a cultural mash-up you didn't know you needed.
But the Desi influence doesn't end there.
Two other tracks, It Takes a Village and Balle Balouza, introduce a collective called The Indian Connect, a group of vocalists and musicians of Indian origin who bring layered authenticity to the film's sonic identity. Their voices weave beautifully with Natania and Subhi's, grounding the soundtrack in a rich South Asian vibe, without losing the playful, family-friendly tone the Smurfs are known for.
It's a surprising and welcome twist: a beloved global franchise using its platform to spotlight South Asian talent as an integral part of its musical narrative.
