Malayalam Top Ten: Year of failures

It is one of the worst years for Malayalam film industry with lot of failures, usual strikes and ego clashes. Amidst all these hurdles, there were 64 releases in Malayalam industry in the year 2007. But very few have turned well in the Box Office. Even the super stars like Mammootty, Mohan Lal and Suresh Gopi also suffered from many failures. Particularly it is Mohan Lal, who gave four big flops Ali Bhai, Paradesi, Rock N Roll and Flash in a row. Mammootty also suffered from more failures than hits in this year. His Ore Kadal, Nasrani are bombed in the box office.

1. Maayavi

Released in the early 2007, Maayavi is the biggest grosser of the year in Malayalam industry. Director Shafi's lighter vein comedy made this film as viewers friendly as well as distributor's pick.

2. Chotta Mumbai

This Mohan Lal-Bhavana starred all class hit has helped the actor to survive in the superstar race. Anwar Rashid's Maas masala script made this film in the B and C centre as the block buster of Mohan Lal.

Chocolate gives a big turning point in the career of Prithvi Raj and this film only helped the actor to become as a solo hero in his forth coming films like Kangaroo. This film also based on a comical theme directed by Shafi. Box office verdict: Blockbuster

4. Hello

Mohan Lal's slapstick comedy in the role of drunken doctor made the film as an all class super hit. Even in other states like Tamil Nadu, the film has opened well and gave enough profit to its distributors. Box office verdict: Blockbuster

5. Vinodayatra

The successful combination of director Sathyan Anthikaad and Maestro Illayaraaja has turned well once again with the help of Dileep-Meera Jasmine's flawless performance. It is a simple family drama with all right ingredients mixed well. Box office verdict: Super Hit

6. Nadia Kolapetta Rathri

This is the hit film for Suresh Gopi only in the year 2007. Director K.Madhu's usual tight script with enough stuff and racy narration made this film as a hit among all the viewers.

7. Katha Parayumbol

Srinivasan's good script with excellent climax forced this film as a winner among Christmas releases. It is a simple story about the friendship between a superstar and barber. M Mohanan is the director.

8. Arabikatha

Yet another Srinivasan hit movie with a serious story. The realistic presentation and good performance of Srinivasan made the film watch worth.

9. Inspector Garuda

It is a crass comedy film with excellent comical performance of Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. Johnny Antony is the director.

10. Kangaroo

Though the film is not opened well in the first week of Christmas, it is slowly picking up now and giving enough hope to its producers to become a hit. It is a bonus film for Prithvi Raj in the year 2007.
