Bigg Boss Malayalam 8 Update: The makers of Bigg Boss Malayalam have introduced a new format titled Bigg Boss Agnipariksha ahead of the eighth season of the reality show hosted by Mohanlal. The announcement was made through a special promo released on May 21, coinciding with the actor's birthday and the theatrical release of Drishyam 3.

Unlike previous seasons, the makers introduced the new logo through a concept-based teaser. The promo focused on the long-standing demand from viewers who felt that ordinary people had limited opportunities to enter the reality show. Addressing this theme, Mohanlal spoke about his own beginnings in cinema and said he could relate to the emotions and struggles faced by common people trying to find a platform.

Referring to his debut as Narendran in the 1980 Malayalam film Manjil Virinja Pookkal, the actor noted that he too had entered the industry as an ordinary individual. The promo then shifted focus to the new selection initiative planned for the upcoming season.

According to the announcement, Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 8 will feature a stronger representation of common contestants. Before the main show begins, the channel is expected to conduct a separate pre-launch segment titled Bigg Boss Malayalam 8 Agnipariksha. The initiative is designed as a talent-based selection process for non-celebrity participants hoping to secure a place inside the Bigg Boss house.

What Is Bigg Boss Agnipariksha?

The concept is similar to a format recently introduced in Bigg Boss Telugu. During the ninth Telugu season, the makers launched a digital pre-show named Bigg Boss Agnipariksha to shortlist commoner contestants. Participants reportedly faced multiple tasks and evaluations before entering the main competition. Former contestants from earlier seasons appeared as mentors and judges during the selection rounds.

The Telugu edition later moved forward with a "Celebrity vs Commoner" concept inside the house. One of the common contestants, Kalyan Padala, eventually emerged as the winner of the season hosted by Nagarjuna Akkineni.

While the Malayalam version has not yet revealed its contestant list or premiere date, industry discussions suggest that the new season may begin around September. The previous season concluded with television actress Anumol lifting the title, while common contestant Aneesh finished as the first runner-up.

With the introduction of Agnipariksha, the upcoming season appears set to place greater focus on ordinary participants and their journey into one of Malayalam television's major reality shows.
