Who Is Murali Kunnumpurath? Malayalam film producer and businessman Murali Kunnumpurath has come under public attention following the circulation of an emotional video in which he spoke about financial distress and personal struggles. The video, which briefly surfaced on social media before being deleted, shows Murali addressing viewers directly and detailing the difficulties he has faced in both business and cinema.

Murali is known to many through the 2021 Malayalam film Vellam, which starred Jayasurya in the lead. The film was based on Murali's own life, tracing his journey from alcoholism to becoming a businessman. However, in the video, Murali clarified that his real-life situation is very different from what was portrayed on screen, describing himself as "an ordinary person" currently dealing with serious setbacks.
Business Setbacks, Film Losses And Allegations Raised By Murali
Murali also spoke about financial losses in his export business, stating that he had supplied tiles to markets such as Dubai, Australia and Africa, and that a significant amount of money remains unpaid. He said he had trusted people in business and incurred losses, while still having pending payments to companies.
He further spoke about his film ventures, saying he became part of the film Vellam and ended up becoming its producer. He added that he produced Nadhikalil Sundari Yamuna, which he claimed resulted in a loss of around ₹2 crore. He alleged that individuals including Unni Velloor and Vijesh Panathoor had misrepresented themselves, leading to the project.
Murali also referred to Sumathi Valavu, directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai, stating that the film led to further losses of approximately ₹7 crore. Overall, he claimed losses of around ₹9 crore from his film ventures.
In the video, Murali alleged that he had been cheated in both business and cinema and named Abhilash Pillai, Vishnu Sasi Shankar, Vijesh Panathoor and Unni Velloor in connection with his claims. He said creditors were not allowing him to live peacefully and stated that he had reached a point where he felt he had no option but to end his life, while also expressing that he did not have the courage to do so.
Murali also expressed regret over the impact of his situation on others around him and spoke about wanting to continue living with his family despite the challenges. The video has since drawn attention online, raising concerns about the pressures faced by individuals involved in both business and film production.
