Belonging to non-filmy background, V. Thiruselvam started his career as an assistant director with noted director Thirumurugan in serials like Metti Oli and Kaveri. Later, he started his acting career after making debut in Metti Oli. Currently, he is directing and producing the popular Sun TV serial, Ethirneechal where he also plays the role of Jeevanantham. He earned several accolades and recognition including the Sun Kudumbam Awards for best director for Ethirneechal.

On the personal front, he is married to Bharathy.
