Prakash Raj In Legal Trouble Over Ramayana Remark; BJP Leader Files Complaint Alleging Hurt Sentiments
The Prakash Raj Ramayana controversy involves formal complaints accusing the actor of insulting Hindu beliefs through a reinterpretation of Ramayana at a festival. The case engages debates on religious harmony, artistic expression, and potential legal action under relevant laws.
Actor Prakash Raj is facing legal scrutiny after two complaints accused the actor of insulting the Ramayana and Hindu beliefs. The cases claim the comments hurt religious sentiments and could disturb social peace. Police are examining both complaints, while Prakash Raj has not yet issued any response.

The debate centres on remarks linked to a stage narration that reinterpreted characters from the Ramayana. Critics argue the description mocked religious figures and Sanatan Dharma. Supporters of legal action say the matter should be probed under laws protecting religious harmony in India.
Prakash Raj Ramayana controversy: Complaints detail alleged hurt sentiments
The first complaint came from Bhanu Prakash, a TTD Board member and BJP leader in Andhra Pradesh. Bhanu Prakash alleged that Prakash Raj made "defamatory and malicious remarks" which, according to the complaint, twisted the Ramayana and disrespected Hindu beliefs. Bhanu Prakash also sought action against anyone who backed or promoted the remarks.
Bhanu Prakash argued that such comments could inflame tensions between communities and demanded strict legal steps. The complaint urged authorities to treat the remarks as an attack on faith. Officials are yet to confirm what legal sections, if any, might apply in the Prakash Raj Ramayana controversy.
Prakash Raj Ramayana controversy: Festival remarks and viral video
The controversy tracks back to January at the Kerala Literature Festival, where Prakash Raj addressed an audience. Prakash Raj spoke about a children’s theatre act that recast Rama, Lakshmana, Ravana and Shurpanakha in a satirical, present-day frame. The performance reportedly used fruits, payments and GST as props for humour.
Video clips of Prakash Raj’s narration from the festival later appeared online and spread widely. Some social media users accused the content of insulting deities. Others argued it was artistic expression. The online reaction added momentum to the Prakash Raj Ramayana controversy and encouraged formal complaints.
A second complaint, filed on 16 April by advocate Amita Sachdeva, intensified the dispute. Amita Sachdeva, who described personal faith as strong, alleged the remarks were deliberate and offensive. The complaint claimed deep hurt to religious feelings and asserted that insults against Hindu deities and Sanatan Dharma should not be accepted.
While the legal process unfolds, Prakash Raj continues work on multiple projects. The actor is set to appear in Drishyam 3 with Ajay Devgn and Tabu. Prakash Raj also features in Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, delayed over censorship issues, and a Ramayana-based film starring Mahesh Babu.
