Ravanasura Movie Review: Mass Raja Ravi Teja's Thriller Manages To Pass Albeit A Regular Revenge Drama
Director: Sudheer Varma
Cast: Ravi Teja, Sushanth, Anu Emmanuel, Faria Abdullah, Megha Akash, Jayaram, Hyper Aadi, Rao Ramesh, etc
Runtime: 140 minutes
Story
ACP Hanumantha Rao (Jayaram) is assigned to crack a series of unusual murders. He tracks down a criminal Lawyer by name Ravindra (Ravi Teja), as the person behind these crimes. What happens next? How does he prove it? Why is Ravindra committing these murders?
Performances
Ravi Teja does his usual OTT, especially in the lengthy first half. His initial scenes with Lawyer Kanaka Mahalakshmi (Faria Abdullah) seem a tad bit boring and routine. Dialogues he mouthed are tedious and uncomfortable at times. They are probably written to entertain his mass-loving fans.
The rest of the cast just did their part including Sushanth, who has nothing exciting to do. Jayaram has some screen space to play out. Hyper Aadi, Sampath Raj, Sriram, and Murali Sharma appear in regular run-of-the-mill kind of roles. Megha Akash makes a notable appearance.
The remake of 'Veyyinokka Jillala' song is a pain to sit through. There are too many cinematic liberties taken for Ravanasura, and the characters suddenly disappear without a conclusion. Having said that, although the story and concept are age-old, director Sudheer Varma focused to depict the film from a different or negative perspective from the protagonist's end, until the climax. Revealing the entire plot and the killer by the end of first half, and a small twist in the second half count for the film. The sad flashback story was also kept crisp, without beating around the bush.
Technicalities
The cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan and GK Vishnu is adequate. The film's songs just don't make any impact on the screen or on the ears and thankfully, there aren't many. The background music although okay for the film and is not really remarkable of sorts for a crime thriller film. Harshavardhan, Rameshwar, and Bheems Ceciroleo worked on the film's music.
What's Good:
Ravi Teja's Character
Visuals
Screenplay
What's Not-so-good:
Trademark Ravi Teja's sleazy comedy
Routine Story
Verdict: Ravi Teja manages to pull crowds and fans to the theatres with his trademark performance. Ravanasura makes for a one-time watch this weekend if you don't have any other plans.
