Biography

Deepak Dobriyal is Garhwali brahmin who is an Indian film and theatre actor. Early Career His parents belong to the Kabra village near Reethakhal and Satpuli village, Pauri Garhwal (Uttarakhand). He completed his education in Delhi. Deepak Dobriyal started his acting career in 1994 with eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. Deepak Dobriyal’s major plays with Gaur are Girish Karnad's Tughlaq, Dharamvir Bharati's Andha Yug, Mahesh Dattani's Final Solutions, Eugene O'Neill's Desire Under the Elms, Girish Karnad's Rakt Kalyan Taledanda, Swadesh Deepak’s Court Martial, Dario Fo’s operation three star (an adaptation of Dario Fo's play Accidental Death of an Anarchist), Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle and The Good Person of Szechwan, Neil Simon's The Good Doctor and Ashok Lal's Ek Mamooli Aadmi. In Asmita Theatre Deepak Dobriyal worked with Manu Rishi, Piyush Mishra, Nandini Arora, Rajesh Bagotra, Shilpa Shukla, Seema Azmi, Shakti Anand, Arachana Shintre Joshii, Jaimini Kumar, Poonam Girdhani, Naveen Tyagi and Radika Rao. He was actively involved in the University of Delhi Campus theatre with Arvind Gaur and Piyush Mishra. He also worked with Lady Shri Ram College for Women, IP Gargi, Jawaharlal Nehru University and School of Planning and Architecture. Deepak's plays were performed during the National School of Drama Festival (Bharat Rang Mahotsava), Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Kala Parishad, Nandikar's National Theatre Festival, Vivachana Theatre Festival, etc. After his 6 years with Arvind Gaur, he also worked some time with Piyush Mishra and NK Shrama. In 2001, Deepak moved to Mumbai. In 2009, he got married to cinema director Lara Bhalla. His major films are Delhi 6, Omkara, Shaurya, Maqbool, 1971, The Blue Umbrella, etc. He got a filmfare award for the film Omkara.
