Early Life & Background:

Mukul Dev was born on September 17, 1970, in New Delhi into a Punjabi family. His father, Hari Dev, was a former Assistant Commissioner of Police, fluent in multiple languages. Mukul attended St. Columba’s School in Delhi, where he began exploring performing arts at a young age. Interestingly, he earned his first paycheck in the 8th grade by mimicking Michael Jackson on Doordarshan.


Career Beginnings – From Pilot to Actor:

Before venturing into acting, Mukul trained as a commercial pilot at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aeronautics. He worked in aviation for nearly 10 years and even ran an aeronautical training institute. However, his passion eventually shifted to acting, and he pursued it wholeheartedly.


Entry into Entertainment:

Mukul made his television debut with the show Mumkin in the mid-1990s and hosted the first season of Fear Factor India. He entered Bollywood in 1996 with Mahesh Bhatt’s Dastak, where he played a cop opposite Sushmita Sen. The film earned him attention for his intense screen presence.


Film Career and Notable Works:

Over a span of nearly three decades, Mukul acted in over 60 films across multiple languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bengali. His notable roles include appearances in Wajood, Qila, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, Jai Ho, R... Rajkumar, and Krishna (Telugu), where he played memorable antagonist roles. For Yamla Pagla Deewana, he was honored with the 7th Amrish Puri Award for Best Villain.


Television Work:

He also worked in several TV shows including 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897, and Kahin Diya Jale Kahin Jiya. Mukul was widely known for his commanding screen presence and versatility, whether on TV or in films.


Personal Life:

Mukul was previously married to Shilpa Dev, with whom he had a daughter named Sia. The couple later separated in 2005. Despite personal struggles, he maintained close bonds with his daughter and his elder brother, actor Rahul Dev.


Final Projects and Passing:

In his final years, Mukul faced health challenges and was admitted to the ICU in May 2025. Sadly, he passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 54. According to family members, he had stopped eating in the days leading up to his death, indicating deeper emotional and physical suffering.


Legacy:

His last completed film is Son of Sardaar 2, releasing posthumously on July 25, 2025, where he plays the role of Tony. His last released film was Anth: The End in 2022. Known for his sincerity, dedication, and quiet versatility, Mukul Dev left a significant mark on Indian cinema and television, remembered fondly by his peers and fans alike.
