Rajpal Yadav to Salman Khan: Bollywood Celebrities Who Went to Jail

Rajpal Yadav is currently serving a six-month prison sentence at Delhi’s Tihar Jail as of February 12, 2026. He surrendered on February 5 after the Delhi High Court rejected his request for more time to repay a loan linked to a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. His legal team has filed for interim bail, with a hearing scheduled for February 12, citing a family wedding as one of the reasons.

Rhea Chakraborty was arrested in 2020 and spent nearly a month in prison. She remained in judicial custody at Mumbai’s Byculla Jail for 28 days after being taken into custody by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on September 8, 2020. Her arrest was part of a drug-related investigation connected to the death of her former boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Salman Khan has spent around 20 to 21 days in jail across different cases, mostly at Jodhpur Central Jail. Between 1998, 2006, and 2007, he spent about 18 days in custody in poaching-related cases. In April 2018, he was sentenced to five years in the blackbuck poaching case and spent two nights in jail before getting bail. He is currently out on bail while his appeal is still pending. In the 2002 hit-and-run case, he was convicted in 2015 but later acquitted by the Bombay High Court.

Sanjay Dutt was first arrested in April 1993 under the TADA and Arms Act for illegal possession of weapons and spent about 18 months in jail before getting bail. In 2007, he was convicted under the Arms Act and briefly returned to prison. The Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 2013, and he served the remaining part of his five-year sentence in Yerwada Jail until his early release in February 2016 for good behaviour.

Shiney Ahuja was arrested on June 14, 2009, after his domestic help accused him of rape, and he spent nearly four months in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail before being granted bail in October 2009. In March 2011, a special fast-track court convicted him and sentenced him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. However, the Bombay High Court later admitted his appeal and granted him bail in April 2011, after which he was released. He remains out on bail while his appeal against the conviction is still pending.

Sooraj Pancholi was arrested in 2013 following the death of his then-girlfriend, actress Jiah Khan, on charges of abetment of suicide. He spent 22 days in judicial custody at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail after being taken into custody on June 10, 2013. Pancholi was later granted bail by the Bombay High Court and released on July 2, 2013. Over a decade later, he was acquitted of all charges.
