Suresh Gopi Biography

Suresh Gopi is a National Film Award-winning actor in Malayalam cinema who is famous for his roles in police dramas. He is one of the reigning superstars in Malayalam cinema. He is noted for his leading roles as much as he is for the character roles. He is also famous for his philanthropic efforts. He is a supporter of the Indian National Congress.

Personal Life

He did his schooling at Infant Jesus High School in Kollam and got graduated from Fathima Mata National College in Kollam.

The actor married Radhika Nair in 1990. The Couple has five children-Gokul Suresh, Bhagya Suresh, Bhavani Suresh, and Madhav Suresh. One of his children, Lakshmi was killed in a car accident.

Career

Suresh Gopi made his first debut in the film 'Odayil Ninnu'when he was 6 years old. The film was an adaptation of the novel with the same title written by P.Kesavadev. Directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and produced by P.Ramaswamy in 1965. The film was a huge success at the box office and legendary artists in Malayalam Film Industry like Prem Nazir, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Sathyan, and K.R Vijaya appeared in the film, it also marked the entry of Actor Suresh Gopi. Later, the film was remade in Tamil with Sivaji Ganeshan in the lead role, but the film flopped.

Since there, Suresh Gopi has acted in several movies like Rajavinte Makkan (1986), January Oru Orma (1987), In Harihar Nagar (1990), Thalastaanam (1992), Ekalavyan (1993), Kasmeeram (1994) and Commissioner (1994). Like a King of blockbuster movies, Suresh Gopi has become part of commercial and successful movies. He is also famous for his appearance in mass-action films. In 1997, the actor won State Film Award for Best Actor for his outstanding performance in the film 'Kaliyattam'.The film was an adaption of William Shakespeare's play Othello, directed by Jayaraaj.

Earlier, Suresh Gopi acted in supporting and negative roles, later he became a prominent face in action and commercial movies like Chinthamani Kolacase (2006), Nadiya Kollappetta Rathri (2007), Twenty: 20(2008)Salaam Kashmir (2014) and  I (2015)

Apart from doing this role, he became a prominent police character in his films like Bharat Chandran I.P.S in 'Bharat Chandran I.P.S', SP Mohammed Sarkar I.P.S in FIR, Chandrasekhar I. P. S in the Tiger'and DYSP Ashok in 'Nariman'.He is the only actor in Malayalam Film Industry, who did the finest police roles in Malayalam films.

Suresh Gopi is also famous in the Tamil and Telugu Film Industries. Many of his Malayalam films were dubbed into Telugu and Tamil language. He recently appeared in the film Varane Avashyamund (2020) along with Actress Shobhana.

Politician

The actor turned into Politics, Suresh Gopi is a former Rajya Sabha MP of BJP. He joined in BJP in 2016.
